Keith Carradine is an American singer-songwriter and actor. He is known for his roles of FBI agent Frank Lundy in the crime drama ‘Dexter’, Wild Bill Hickok in HBO’s ‘Deadwood’ and US President Conrad Dalton in the political drama ‘Madam Secretary’. He is much renowned as a songwriter as well, with an Academy Award to his credit. Born to actor John Carradine and actress Sonia Sorel, Keith had a difficult childhood. Following his parents’ divorce in 1957, he was raised by his maternal grandmother and rarely saw his mother or father, the latter of whom won his custody. After high school, Keith ditched his dream of becoming a forest ranger and instead studied drama at the Colorado State University before eventually launching his professional acting career in 1969. Beginning his career as a stage actor, he eventually ventured into television productions and films as well. He has been very successful as a songwriter and if often known to integrate his musical talents with his acting performances.

Keith Carradine was born on August 8, 1949 in San Mateo, California, USA to actress Sonia Sorel and actor John Carradine. He has two brothers, Christopher and Robert.
He also has a maternal half-brother named Michael Bowen as well as two paternal half-brothers, David and Bruce, all of whom are actors.
His parents divorced in 1957 and his father got the custody of him and his two brothers. Later, Carradine was raised by his maternal grandmother. His mother was not allowed to meet him for eight years.
Following school, he attended Colorado State University. After dropping out after a semester, he began his career in acting with the help of his brother David.

Keith Carradine began his career with the 1969 production of ‘Hair.’ He later starred alongside Jessica Tandy and Hume Cronyn in ‘Foxfire’ which earned him an Outer Critics Circle Award.
In 2008, he featured as Dr. Farquhar in the Off-Broadway thriller ‘Mindgame.’ In 2013, the actor earned a Drama Desk Award nomination and a Tony Award nomination for his performance in ‘Hands on a Hardbody’.

Keith Carradine made his television debut with a 1971 episode of ‘Bonanza’. A year later, he was cast as Middle Caine in ‘Kung Fu.’
In 1983, he starred as Foxy Funderburke in the miniseries ‘Chiefs’ and earned a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for his performance.
The actor starred with Kathy Bates and JoBeth Williams in the highly rated miniseries ‘Murder Ordained’ which aired on CBS. From 1997 to 1998, he played the role of Dr. Richard Beckett in the action drama ‘Fast Track’.
In 2003, he voiced the character of Jonah Jameson in ‘Spider-Man: The New Animated Series’. That year, Carradine also began hosting The History Channel’s ‘Wild West Tech’.

Film Career
Keith Carradine made his big screen debut in the 1971 western ‘McCabe & Mrs. Miller’. This was followed by his role in ‘Thieves Like Us’.
In 1975, he starred as Tom Frank in the critically acclaimed musical comedy-drama flick ‘Nashville’. He also wrote and performed the film’s track "I'm Easy” and earned an Academy Award for Best Original Song along with a Golden Globe Award in the same category.
The actor appeared in the historical drama movies ‘The Duellists’ and ‘Pretty Baby’ in the late 1970s. In 1980, he played Jim Younger in the western ‘The Long Riders.’
In the ensuing years, he had roles in the films ‘Choose Me’, ‘Trouble in Mind’ and ‘The Moderns’. Carradine started the 1990s with a role in ‘The Tie That Binds’, a thriller that depicts the struggles of a couple who adopt a young girl only to discover that her biological parents, a criminal couple, are aiming to reclaim her.
In 2014, the actor featured as Jonathan Bragg in the mystery flick ‘Terroir’. Three years later, he starred in the romantic drama ‘Ray Meets Helen’.

Keith Carradine met actress Shelley Plimpton in the 1960s and became romantically involved with her. Their relationship led to the birth of their daughter, Martha Plimpton, who also grew up to be an actress.
In 1982, he married actress Sandra Will. The couple had two kids, Sorel Johannah Carradine and Cade Richmond Carradine. They separated in 1993.
In November 2006, Carradine got married to actress Hayley DuMond. Together, they have a son, Sean David.
Trivia
He is a great-grandson of biochemist Max Henius from his mother’s side.
